How do I pitch for funding?
You can share your startup with us through our funding form. We review each application and try our best to respond to each and every one.
Are we too early for Play Ventures?
We invest in the best pre-seed and seed stage startups. This means we invest in companies that are pre-product, pre-revenue, and sometimes pre-incorporation.
What kind of companies is Play looking for?
We're looking for companies with the ambition to build the next $100M+ success stories in the following categories:
• Game studios across platforms and business models
• Playable apps – consumer products with potential to benefit from game mechanics and systems
• B2B services and infrastructure behind games and apps
What geographies or markets does Play invest in?
We invest globally! Most of our portfolio is located across Europe, North America, Asia and Australia but we're always looking for interesting opportunities to expand that reach, e.g. to the LatAm and MENA regions.
What do you look for in a founding team?
Founder-product fit – deep understanding and curiosity towards the chosen topic – along with complementary skillsets and shared experience of working (and disagreeing) together successfully.
What is Play's process for making investments?
Once we review your application and the shared materials, we may reach out for more details or to set up a call to get to know your team and your vision better. We'll let you know swiftly if Play Ventures could be the right fit, and if so, outline next steps — typically in-depth chats and meetings with you and your co-founders.
What size investments does Play typically make?
Our initial investment into a company typically ranges from US$1M - US$5M.
Does Play Ventures invest more into an existing portfolio company as they grow?
Yes! We are committed to helping our founders build something big, so we do allocate capital for follow-on investments in subsequent rounds of funding.
Besides funding, how else does Play Ventures help its portfolio companies?
We are committed to supporting our portfolio companies also in non-financial ways. Every company and founding team is different so we provide tailored support based on what is needed and appropriate for their stage of development. We provide our companies with access to helpful resources and data, and support them first-hand and through our network in areas like talent, fundraising, business development and more. We also encourage and facilitate sharing amongst our community of portfolio founders in multiple areas, from user acquisition to tech stack discussions.
How involved is Play with your portfolio companies?
We are in it for the long haul. We are in regular contact with all our portfolio companies and are always reachable to the founders and their teams. We also support our portfolio companies through access to resources and in other areas, as needed by the founders and the company.
